Speaker Anita Among has directed the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, to call off the plenary sittings for this week under unclear circumstances.

Plenary is expected to resume on July 30, 2024, according to a communication from the House.

This decision follows hours after a group of youths stormed Kampala streets on Tuesday July 23, demanding the resignation of the Speaker over corruption allegations against Parliament.

The notice, addressed to all Members of Parliament, did not provide specific reasons for the postponement and yet legislators  had  just come back from a recess for around a month.

The plenary session was originally slated for an earlier date but has been rescheduled as per the Speaker’s instructions.

“The plenary has been called off until July 30th to accommodate urgent parliamentary business,” the communication stated.
